Teachers and graduate students of KSUAE undertook the internship in Israel "Urban planning policy in multicultural cities"

From June 27 to July 21, lecturers and post-graduate students of the Department of Urban Planning Zakiyeva L. F., Orlova N. G. and Belonogova K. A. undertook an internship at the Rotberg International School in Jerusalem under the program “Urban Planning Policy in Multicultural Cities”.

The course was led by Professor Yitzhak Reiter, a well-known Israeli political scientist, head of the Ashkelon Academy's Research Center and Department of Israeli Studies, Senior Fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Political Studies and the Harry S. Truman Peace Research Institute. The high qualification and dedication of the professor to Islamic, Middle Eastern and Israeli studies could not but affect the overall high rating and positive impressions of the internship and the knowledge gained during the training.

During the internship, the teachers studied the phenomenon of the Old City in Jerusalem and the peculiarities of its planning, got acquainted with urban planning in the context of the Arab-Israeli conflict, studied territorial planning and urban development in Arab and Jewish regions, and revealed the design features of modern residential complexes. The peculiarity of this course was that lectures within the walls of the university were closely intertwined with trips to the city, where the theoretical material was clearly demonstrated.

In addition to our participants, the study group included students and teachers from the USA, Japan, Korea, Australia, and Canada. The multinationality of the team contributed to the establishment of new professional and friendly ties. During the internship, the teachers of KSUAE gained invaluable experience and knowledge, which will undoubtedly be applied in design and research activities in the Republic of Tatarstan, and after successfully passing the final work, they received a certificate of completion of the course.

The first graduation in Tatarstan region of the degree "Housing and communal infrastructure" took place in KSUAE

On July 14, 2022, diplomas were awarded to the first bachelor's degree in the Republic of Tatarstan of "Housing and communal infrastructure" at KSUAE. 52 bachelors completed the profile programme "Organization of activities in the housing and communal complex" on the basis of the department of municipal management of KSUAE.

In a solemn atmosphere, the graduates were congratulated by the rector of KSUAE R.K. Nizamov, Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Tatarstan I.N. Nasyrov and Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation M.A. Nuriev. The academic staff and guests of the event noted the versatility of the chosen specialized area of training in housing and communal services and advised the young specialists to continue their studies at Master courses in order to build a promising career.

For the new academic year, the university is recruiting for practice-oriented training under the universal master's program "Management of urban facilities and technologies."

First-year students undergo practical training in obtaining primary professional skills and abilities

In the period of July 4-12, 2022, first-year students of the Institute of Civil Engineering underwent an internship to obtain primary professional skills and abilities. Together with the head of practice, senior lecturer of the Department of Construction Production Technologies of KSUAE Ruslan Bogdanov, students got acquainted with the technologies of low-rise construction when visiting the Little Tokyo cottage village, and also carried out measurement and troubleshooting work on the WorldSkills building according to the competence "Organization of construction production" on the basis of KSUAE.

During a visit to the Little Tokyo cottage village, the company's chief engineer, Alexei Petrov, shared with the students detailed information about the construction technology, materials used, and the quality control system. Students were able to study the various stages of the integrated development of the territory: providing a land plot with communications, foundation work, building a frame and finishing work. It was interesting to inspect the houses under construction, the most informative was the study of the supporting structure. The students were also able to appreciate the low-depth strip foundation, developed specifically for the company by employees of the Department of Construction Technologies of KSUAE. In the course of the work, they acquired the skills of using measuring tools and instruments (laser range finder, laser axis builder, etc.), as well as carrying out measurement and troubleshooting work.

KSUAE graduates-architects presented their diploma projects to potential employers

On July 8, 2022, the regular review of graduation projects of the Institute of Architecture and Design was held at KSUAE. The event was attended by professional architects of the city of Kazan, including: the chief architect of the city of Kazan I.M.Tukhvatullina, Deputy Chief Architect T.E. Kadyrov, Head of the Department for the Protection of Architectural Monuments and Cultural Heritage of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Kazan L.R. Solovyov.

The uniqueness of this event is that the best students of the Institute of Architecture and Design of KSUAE have the opportunity to present their projects and introduce themselves, in particular, to the leading design organizations in the region of Tatarstan, and some of them find a future job already at the university without passing private interviews. Last year, about 30 graduates presented their projects and most of them received job offers. Such events let the heads of architectural and construction companies attract the best students to their organizations, as well as KSUAE graduates remain working in the industry for the benefit of their native region.

This year, 46 students of various architectural fields have presented their final qualifying works, potential employers from both public and private organizations have participated. The eight-hour event ended with a "feedback" from the guests - many spoke about how pleasantly surprised by the high level of training and professional knowledge of students, about the excellent computer graphics of the presented projects. The guests unanimously recommended that the graduates further develop their creative potential in the profession, going on also with the MSc programmes. As a result of the meeting, 15 people were invited for an employment interview, three - for targeted training in the MSc programmes.

Representatives of KSUAE participated in the seminar for conservation and sustainable development of architectural heritage

On June 23-26, 2022, as part of the development of cooperation and interregional relations in the field of conservation and sustainable development of cultural and architectural heritage, representatives of KSUAE took part in a series of events organized in the city of Arkhangelsk with the assistance of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University. M.V. Lomonosov (NarFU).

The Interuniversity seminar "Sustainable development of architectural heritage: education and technology" was held on the basis of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov. The seminar was organized by Russian universities participating in the Erasmus Plus Capacity Building joint project "Capacity Building in the field of sustainable development of architectural heritage", the purpose of which was to update and improve the quality of educational programs in the field of sustainable management of architectural heritage (information historical modeling of buildings and urban historical landscapes - the use BIM-technologies) in the Russian Federation, Armenia and Iran to meet the needs of the sustainable development of the global economy.

Representatives of KSUAE made the following presentations: Associate Professor of the Department of Restorstaion, Director of the Center for Architectural and Restoration Research Svetlana Persova “Practice-oriented approach in architectural education as a tool for achieving sustainable development goals. Experience of KSUAE”; Head of International Relations, Associate Professor of the Department of History and Philosophy Olga Poroshenko "Philosophy of cultural heritage".

Representatives and experts of the Departments of Restoration and Cultural Heritage of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov (NarFU), National Research University "Moscow State University of Civil Engineering" and Samara State Technical University.

At the beginning of the seminar, NArFU Vice-Rector for Information Policy, International and Interregional Cooperation Konstantin Zaikov delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the relevance and importance of such events: “For any country, its identity, cultural and historical space is important. And, of course, another important topic is urban spaces. For many cities, the problem of attracting young people is relevant, and the development of a comfortable environment plays an important role in solving it. Many studies show that the issue is not only in the quality of education, but also in the place where you live.”

The main topics for discussion at the seminar were: trends in the sustainable development of cultural and historical landscapes and socio-cultural frameworks of cities on the example of the cities of the Russian Arctic, the use of a virtual reconstruction approach to preserve the cultural heritage of the North, and the experience of creating and operating UNESCO Chairs as an effective tool for sustainable management of cultural heritage.

As a result of the seminar and meetings, the parties agreed to create a joint professional retraining program between Russian universities: (Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering, Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov (NAFU), National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering and Samara State Technical University) with the participation of international experts in the field of reconstruction and restoration of the architectural heritage, topics are outlined for joint research work and internships for students and faculty.
