KSUAE and the Center for Contemporary Architecture of Amazonia in Brazil agreed on cooperation

Deans and professors from 8 universities of the BRICS Plus countries — India, China, Brazil, South Africa, Ethiopia, Iran, Malaysia and Russia — met in Kazan as part of the Kazanysh International Architecture Forum.

Following the meeting, the rectors of KSUAE and the Center for Contemporary Architecture of Amazonia at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) in Brazil signed a memorandum of cooperation.

“Cooperation between architectural universities of different countries on different continents will provide synergy to the educational process and will become a new milestone in the training of young professionals. It will significantly expand the horizons of students and improve the level of training. Young people will have the opportunity to absorb the best in different architectural schools around the world, improve their visual acuity, which is extremely important for architects, and expand their thinking. Ultimately, I am sure that this will have the most positive impact on the quality of architecture in our cities and make them even more attractive and comfortable for residents. Today’s decision will affect the next decades,” commented Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin.

"Today, the measure of an architect's training is how you look in the international field. That's why it's good that all of this (Kazanysh - editor's note) is organized. Because until professors and deans see our university, they won't know how wonderful we are," said Rector of KSUAE Rashit Nizamov. The rector also noted that KSUAE is one of the few universities in the country that represents Russia at international competitions. "Our school has its own specifics, which are based on a combination of engineering and creativity. Our students put everything through their hearts, they are not craftsmen. That's why we win international competitions, because other specialists often lack this creative part." KSUAE students who compete in competitions are often invited to work in the world's leading architectural firms.

Representatives of international universities also discussed prospects for cooperation and joint development of education. For deans and professors of architectural universities, this was the first practical step in the work of the Committee on Architecture and Urban Development of the Association of Cities and Municipalities of the BRICS Plus Countries. The participants exchanged experiences and learned about the organization of the educational process and research in other countries. The discussion was attended by professors  from Tsinghua University (China), the Center for Contemporary Architecture of Amazonia (Brazil), World University of Design (India), Tehran University (Iran), the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and Urban Planning (Ethiopia), as well as representatives of Russian universities, including MARCHI, MARCH School of Architecture, HSE, SPbGASU and NSUADI.
