The ideas of KSUAE architecture students are again recognized as the best at the international level!

In September 2023, the Epidemic Urbanism Initiative community of scientists summed up the results of the international architectural competition Adaptive Reuse: Design Transformations for Community Healthcare.

The topic of the competition: adaptation, renovation of abandoned buildings into medical facilities. In recent years, in many countries around the world there has been a tendency to use the reservation method, renovating old buildings that are in poor condition, in order to create modern, functional and sought-after facilities. In this context, it is especially important to attract young specialists who can offer new ideas and approaches to modernizing old buildings.

One such example is a competition in which KSUAE architecture students participated under the guidance of teachers Ilnar and Rezeda Akhtyamov. TIArch studio students in teams proposed their ideas for renovating old buildings with the creation of a medical function.

The competition included two categories of applications: “Community Health Center” and “Emergency Care Center.” In their projects, participants had to use an existing site or building and solve current health problems with an eye to the future.

KSUAE teams were selected among the best in both categories of the competition among 70 applications from China, Canada, Germany, USA, UAE, India, Mexico, etc.

The teams participating in the “Community Health Center” nomination chose interesting areas in Mumbai, India (team: Nikita Logaza, Artem Sultanov, Alsou Sharafutdinova and Ksenia Egorova) and Moscow, Russia (team: Dina Kiyamova, Marat Khafizov, Adelina Khabibullina). Participants from the studio in the “Emergency Care Center” nomination found and analyzed the territory in the Admiralteyskaya Sloboda area of the city of Kazan (team: Ksenia Krepkogorskaya, Dilyara Kidracheva, Nadezhda Shumeeva).

The project of the Center for Rehabilitation of Victims of Domestic Violence in Mumbai, India, created by a team led by 4th year student Nikita Logaz, took second place. It aims to correct the acute problem of violence in the region. Extensive research was carried out, local materials and architectural techniques familiar to India were used.

The Emergency Care Center project, designed under the leadership of 5th year student Ksenia Krepkogorskaya, was created on the basis of an abandoned fire tower on Malo-Moskovskaya Street in Kazan. He took second place in his category. The team took into account that emergency personnel deal with stress and death on a daily basis. During the pandemic, their workload has increased. They proposed creating a new ambulance station using modern technologies such as drones and driverless taxis to improve the assistance process. They also proposed creating spaces for employees to relax.

The project, led by 5th year student Dina Kiyamova, envisages the creation of a new typology of a children's psychiatric hospital. It should serve as a safe space for children and their parents to learn, diagnose, monitor, treat and adapt, promote healthy living and prioritize their mental health. The team was included in the list of honorable mentions in the “Community Health Center” nomination.

The experts - members of the jury - highly appreciated the courageous approach of the guys in the adaptive use of abandoned buildings, as well as the fact that the students in their projects paid special attention not only to patients of medical institutions, but also to their employees.

The award ceremony was held in a video conference format, where the jury gave their comments on the works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeDcnD3agEI,   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkOFvhPNMVY

Congratulations to the students and teachers of KSUAE on their next achievement, recognition and monetary awards!

October 2 – World Architecture Day

October 2 – World Architecture Day

October 2 is World Architecture Day, a professional holiday for all architects.

Architecture (from the Greek αρχι - “chief” and τέκτων - “builder”) is the ancient art of designing and constructing a variety of buildings and structures. The famous “Vitruvius Triad”: strength, utility, beauty (lat. firmitas, utilitas, venustas), formulated in the treatise “Ten Books on Architecture” by the Roman architect and engineer of the second half of the 1st century BC. Marcus Vitruvius, has not lost its relevance in the modern world.

The famous French architect, an innovator in the architecture of his time, Le Corbusier, said: “You see, what distinguishes an artist is that there are moments in his life when he feels more than human".

An architect is a creative profession, which means that development in this professional direction will allow you to live a bright life, full of impressions and communication with talented people. The architect, along with other representatives of creative professions, creates timeless works of art. And in terms of durability of art, only sculpture can compete with architecture. To be a sought-after architect means to remain in the memory of posterity. The profession of an architect is complex and multifaceted, interesting and responsible.

Dear architects, teachers and students of the Institute of Architecture and Design of KSUAE!

Congratulations on your professional holiday - World Architecture Day! We wish you professional irreplaceability, new projects and their successful implementation, creative enthusiasm and wide recognition of success!

KSUAE students at the International construction sites of Rosatom

Members of the headquarters of student detachments of KSUAE Kamil Shigapov and Albert Allaberdin spent their third working semester at the international construction sites of the Rooppur NPP in the People's Republic of Bangaldesh and the El-Dabaa NPP in Egypt.

After a competitive selection, the guys became part of 25 students who represented regions from all over Russia. The guys were employed by the company JSC Atomstroyexport, an engineering division of the state corporation Rosatom.

Kamil Shigapov, Rooppur NPP, says: “The climate in the People's Republic of Bangladesh was difficult: every day the temperature reached up to 34 degrees and the humidity was above 98%. Worked in the construction and installation works department and in the anti-corrosion and special works department. Together with leading specialists, we went to construction control, accepted work performed during inspections, analyzed working documentation, corrected conflicts and developed technical solutions for construction. It was possible to successfully apply the knowledge acquired at the university, for example, on building materials: we visited a laboratory where concrete samples from a construction site are tested every day and the life cycle of reinforced concrete structures is studied. We managed to learn even more and gain new knowledge".

Albert Allaberdin, El-Dabaa NPP: “I worked in the scheduling and production system department of Rosatom. Together with specialists, he visited the construction site every day and took photographs of the working day to identify production losses. The data was used to calculate deviations, estimated completion dates and update stands".

Nuclear power plants are unique and technically complex construction projects. Powerful equipment, the level of construction responsibility, complex engineering solutions - the guys were able to see all this on site. At the end of the working semester, the students were presented with letters of gratitude from JSC Atomstroyexport for the successful completion of production tasks.
