The competition was held on the initiative of the Department of Architecture and Urban Development of Kazan, and was organized by the Kazan City Development Institute. The main goal of the competition is to popularize achievements in the field of architecture, urban development and external improvement, the uniqueness and national color of Kazan.

About the projects:

In the renovation project of the 18th century building, the design object was the ruins of a building with a three-hundred-year history in Kazan. At the time of the project preparation, no historical information about how the building looked before its destruction was found. Based on this, the authors had a choice - to perform a free reconstruction of the building based on historical samples or to follow modern trends and not transform what remains, but on the contrary, to preserve and highlight or, say, “frame” the surviving fragments of the building with modern architecture. The choice (very correct and logical) fell on the second option, where it seemed obvious that all new additions for aesthetic or technical reasons should differ from the surviving part, bear the signs of a new time. The elements intended to replace the missing parts had to fit harmoniously into the whole and at the same time differ from the original fragments so that the reconstruction of the object did not falsify the historical and artistic documentary nature. Thus, the project preserved the building's elevation marks, the principle of the pitched roof, the location of the interfloor staircase, but at the same time, all the reconstructed parts were offered in modern materials - glass and corten.

The improvement project was created by students of the Institute of Architecture and Design for the territory of wetlands in one of the districts of Kazan. A strategy was developed for the development of the green framework of the entire district, harmoniously integrated into the general development plan of the city. The main objective was not only to preserve and emphasize the wealth of existing natural resources, but also to ensure the integrity and safety of the animal world. Nesting zones of rare species of seagulls for the city were identified on the territory. The project envisages the creation of a unique wetland park, which will become a real oasis for city residents, carefully preserving the pristine beauty of nature and providing an opportunity for people to be its spectators. In addition, a multifunctional district park area has appeared, equipped with all the necessary recreational resources for local residents.
