KSUAE Students Try Out New Art Therapy Method — Clay Therapy
Students recently explored a new art therapy method, guided by KSUAE psychologist A.B. Belousova. The laboratory at the "Technologies" Research and Educational Center was an ideal setting for this clay therapy session, offering a large, comfortable workspace where all participants could sit, equipped with all necessary materials.
Clay therapy serves as a gentle approach to self-discovery, allowing individuals to uncover and process their emotions. It is highly effective in helping people cope with stress, aggression, anxiety, and other intense feelings.
The session began with students sharing emotions they find challenging to manage in their daily lives; they then sculpted these feelings out of clay. Afterward, they described their creations in words. In the next stage, participants modified their sculptures to transform the emotions they had expressed, subsequently explaining the changes they had made. The students created abstract forms, using the clay as a medium for free self-expression. There were no criteria for "good" or "bad," "beautiful" or "ugly"—the sculptures simply reflected the participants' immediate feelings and inner experiences. According to the students, by the end of the session, they felt a sense of revitalization, interest, inspiration, gratitude, and relief.
There are plans to continue this work in the future.
