Tukay's lines in all languages: KSUAE international students celebrated the great Tatar poet's 140th birthday
Today, on 26 April, in honor of the 140th anniversary of the birth of the great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay, KSUAE held a celebratory event that became a shining example of intercultural dialogue. Students from various countries gathered to pay tribute to the poet's legacy, whose work transcends the boundaries of a single culture and whose works have been translated into nearly 40 languages. His poems have become a symbol of wisdom, love for his native land, and universal human values.
International students in the Russian language preparatory program, for whom the Republic of Tatarstan and its culture have become part of their educational journey, prepared a special program, proving that Tukay's art knows no boundaries. The international student literary festival opened with a reading of the poet's poems "Native Village" and "Native Language" in various languages—Tatar, Russian, Arabic, Turkish, English, French, and even Spanish. The students didn't just translate the lines; they also shared their emotions: "When I first read 'Native Language,' I felt the same pride I felt for my native Arabic," said Abdellah from Morocco.
Russian students from group 25PG06 of the KSUAE Institute of Civil Engineering assumed the role of cultural ambassadors and guides to the world of Tukay's life. They prepared and presented informative presentations in Russian about Tukay's life and his iconic works, which have become gems not only of Tatar but also of world literature. Particular attention was paid to analyzing the famous poems-fairy tales "Shurale" and "Su Anasy".
The meeting concluded with a fascinating quiz dedicated to Tukay's life and poetry. The international students were able to showcase their knowledge gained during the presentations and demonstrate how attentively they listened to the speakers. This was a wonderful opportunity to reinforce their acquired knowledge in an interactive format. The meeting became a shining example of how learning Russian can be combined with deep immersion in cultural heritage.
Such events are exceptionally important. They not only preserve and promote cultural heritage among young people but also serve an important educational and unifying function. Through Tukay's poetry, international students were able to better understand the cultures of Tatarstan and Russia. The event became a true bridge of friendship and mutual understanding between different cultures united by a love of words and the work of the great poet.
The event was organized as part of the KSUAE "Let's Speak Russian" conversation club and the socio-cultural adaptation program for international students and was made possible thanks to the organizational support of the KSUAE International Relations Office . We express special gratitude to L.A. Nigmatullina, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages at KSUAE, for her comprehensive preparation of the students for the event.
