KSUAE held the 6th All-Russian (with international participation) scientific conference "Historical Memory and Modern Science: Problems, Discussions, New Perspectives." The conference organizing committee received 74 applications, and the program included 59 papers.
Conference participants came from Kazan and other cities of the Republic of Tatarstan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, Grozny, Cherepovets, Tomsk, Tula, Makhachkala, Makeyevka, Donetsk, Yessentuki, Yekaterinburg, as well as Abkhazia and Belarus.
KSUAE Vice-Rector for Research, E.A. Vdovin, warmly welcomed the conference participants. He emphasized the importance of the issues up for discussion, including: historical memory as the basis for preserving the spiritual and cultural traditions of peoples, the problem of preserving collective historical memory in the modern world, the resources of historical memory against attempts to falsify history, and philosophical and ideological problems of historical memory.
The plenary session's reports reflected the main aspects of the conference's theme. Corresponding Member of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences and Doctor of Historical Sciences L.R. Gabdrafikova, in her report "The First World War in Tatar Ego-Documents," presented unique documents revealing a virtually unknown aspect of the "forgotten" war—the participation of representatives of the Muslim and Tatar populations of the Kazan Governorate. The report "Historical Memory of the Future or Futurology of the Past" by N.A. Tereshchenko, Doctor of Philosophy and Associate Professor at Kazan Federal University, reflected a philosophical perspective on the problem of preserving historical memory in modern times. The report "Representation of Significant Historical Events in the Structure of Belarusian Identity in the 'Long' 19th Century" by S.F. Shimukovich, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Belarusian State University of Economics, highlighted the important issue of the formation of the foundations of Belarusian statehood. A report by I.I. Khanipova, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor (Sh. Marjani Institute of History, Tatarstan Academy of Sciences), was dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scholar A.Sh. Kabirova and her scholarly contribution to the study of the Great Patriotic War. Professor S.I. Nikonova, Doctor of Historical Sciences (KSUAE), devoted her report to the history of the "Fakel" search project and emphasized the scientific significance of the materials collected by the project participants in the study of the Great Patriotic War and the Soviet period of Russian history. Scholars, as well as undergraduate and graduate students from the city's universities, participated in the breakout sessions.
