(a) Where will I be based?
Your studies will be based in Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering. Significant amounts of teaching activity will be shared between the UEL and KSUAE programmes. You will be a student of both UEL and KSUAE. Being a student of UEL does not give any right of entry into the United Kingdom.
(b) How long will I study?
You will study for four years. UEL terminology for the years of study is as follows:
The first year is called level 0 (KSUAE first year)
The second year is called level 1 (KSUAE second year)
The third year is called level 2 (KSUAE third year)
The fourth year is callee level 3 (KSUAE fourth year)
(c) What is the language in which I will be taught and assessed?
Levels 0-2 will be taught and assessed in Russian. Level 3 will be taught in English and occasionally in Russia. Level 3 will be assessed in English only. You must have IELTS 6 or equivalent when you begin level 3. If you do not you will either remedy this b further study and rejoin the above programme at the first opportunity or be awarded a UEL Undergraduate Diploma in Building Design. The transcript of this award will note that you have studied in Russian only.
(d) How will I be taught
You will be taught by KSUAE staff over the duration of the programme and by UEL staff during last year.
In addition there will be a series of 'international, professional development' workshops. This will include opportunities to attend workshops at UEL London. There will be an additional charge (at cost) for these workshops. Any essential course related information will be given in workshops in Kazan for those unable to travel to London. There will be no additional fee for such workshops if offered at KSUAE. There may be a fee if the workshops are offered in a sanitarium other suitable location in the Kazan region.
(d) Are the assessments on the two courses related?
Sometimes your assessments will be the same on both programmes in the double award. Sometimes they will be different so you will have additional assessment work to undertake.
(e) What happens if I fail assessments?
If you fail assessments you will have the opportunities to remedy that failure according to the regulations of the institution who set the assessment. If you are taking two concurrent but related assessments, one for UEL and one for KSUAE and you fail one, but pass the other, every effort will be made to ensure that you can remedy quickly and in a way that does not cause your 'double award ' studies to be interrupted. You should note that in the unlikely event that an opportunity for a timely remedy cannot be found, your studies on the UEL programme could be delayed by up to a year.
(f) What about my level of English
Your current level of English and your motivation and aptitude to learn English will be assessed in the admissions process. Normal KSUAE English Language support will be available to you. It is your responsibility to ensure that you reach IELTS 6 or equivalent by the time you start UEL level 3. You must update us on your level of English at the beginning of levels 0, 1 and 2. We recommend that you take advantage of our relationship with Kazan Business School who will be operating testing and teaching that is linked to your double award. We recommend that you undertake a regular programme of study with them, that meets your own needs.
(g) What will my degree certificate say?
When you complete the programme your UEL degree certificate and transcript will be in English. You transcript will note that all or part of your studies have been undertaken in Russia.
(h) You will have access to the UEL virtual learning environment and via our library portal, access to more than 7000 journals and many e books.
(i) How do I know I am a student of UEL?
You will enjoy all rights and privileges of any normal UEL student as detailed on the UEL website and in your course handbook, except where by virtue of location such rights and privileges become impractical or irrelevant and are replaced by local variants
(j) Can I make advanced entry into the course?
Yes, its possible to enter the courses at the beginning and at years 2, 3 an 4. You have to provide evidence of former study that is equivalent to the years you are missing. This information will be considered by UEL. Dr. Olga Poroshenko can advise you on this before you make your application.
